The design for this house was inspired by a long tradition of modern architecture in desert surrounding. Palm Springs is probably the best world-wide known desert community inspiring that type of tradition. Beauty in the desert lies in details, in dramatic, draught tolerant plants; in patterns, and in stones. Modern houses can reflect this same concept. The architect chose plain forms with beautiful, unique details.
The Adobe-like forms with smoothened corners and roof lines are reminiscent of strong, desert winds. A white palette creates shades of white that are impossible to reach in other climates without desert sun. The white color has practical function since it reflects light, and absorbs the least heat. Little clay roofs are inspired by the tiles on the roofs of the Californian missions. A golden stripe applied in elevation reflects the sun and creates shimmering reflections, almost bringing to mind desert mirages.
